Registration/Free Shooting: 8:45 AM - 9:10 AM
Every great day starts with a warm-up, and at Reach Basketball’s summer camp, this means registration followed by free shooting time. From 8:45 to 9:10 AM, kids sign in and get a chance to loosen up with some casual shooting. This period helps them get comfortable on the court, shake off any nerves, and start focusing on the day ahead. It’s a great way for young athletes to socialize and get into the basketball mindset.
Roll Call and Opening Remarks: 9:10 AM - 9:20 AM
At 9:10 AM, the camp kicks off officially with roll call and opening remarks. Coaches introduce themselves and outline the day’s activities. This session is crucial as it sets the tone for the day, instilling a sense of discipline and expectation. It’s also an opportunity to motivate the kids, emphasizing the importance of effort, teamwork, and having fun.
Age Breakdown and Stretching (Warm-Up): 9:20 AM - 9:35 AM
Following the opening remarks, kids are grouped by age for a targeted warm-up session. This age-appropriate breakdown ensures that each child engages in exercises suitable for their developmental level. The stretching and warm-up period from 9:20 to 9:35 AM helps prevent injuries, increases flexibility, and prepares the body for the physical activity ahead. It’s a vital part of any athletic routine, teaching young athletes the importance of proper preparation.
Water Break: 9:35 AM
Staying hydrated is key, especially in the Arizona heat. A scheduled water break at 9:35 AM ensures that kids stay refreshed and ready to continue. It’s a brief but necessary pause to recharge before diving into more intensive training.
Stations – Ball Handling, Footwork, Layups, Shooting: 9:40 AM - 10:30 AM
From 9:40 to 10:30 AM, the camp focuses on fundamental basketball skills through various stations. Each station targets a different skill:
Ball Handling: Kids learn to control the ball better, enhancing their dribbling skills.
Footwork: Proper footwork is crucial in basketball for defense and positioning. This station improves agility and coordination.
Layups: Practicing layups helps players improve their accuracy and confidence in close-range shots.
Shooting: Shooting drills help refine technique and build muscle memory for consistent performance.
This comprehensive approach ensures that campers get well-rounded training in all essential basketball skills.
League Games/Small Sided Games: 10:30 AM - 11:15 AM
After skill stations, from 10:30 to 11:15 AM, kids participate in league games and small-sided games. This segment allows them to apply what they've learned in a game setting, emphasizing teamwork and strategic thinking. It’s an exciting part of the day where kids experience real game scenarios, boosting their confidence and enjoyment of the sport.
Contest of the Day: 11:15 AM - 11:45 AM
From 11:15 to 11:45 AM, the camp holds a daily contest. Whether it's a shooting contest, dribbling challenge, or another fun competition, this segment adds a layer of excitement and friendly rivalry. It encourages kids to push their limits and celebrate their achievements, fostering a positive and competitive spirit.
Closing Remarks and Dismissal: 11:45 AM - 12:00 PM
The day wraps up with closing remarks from 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM. Coaches highlight key learnings of the day, celebrate achievements, and provide encouragement for continuous improvement. This session reinforces the day's lessons and ensures kids leave feeling accomplished and motivated.
